1பின்பு சாமுவேல் சவுலை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலராகிய தம்முடைய ஜனங்கள்மேல் உம்மை ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணுகிறதற்குக் கர்த்தர் என்னை அனுப்பினாரே; இப்போதும் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளின் சத்தத்தைக் கேளும்:

Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to the LORD your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”

16அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல்: அந்தப் பேச்சை விடும், கர்த்தர் இந்த இராத்திரியிலே எனக்குச் சொன்னதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கிறேன் என்று சவுலோடே சொன்னான். அவன்: சொல்லும் என்றான்.

20சவுல் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: நான் கர்த்தருடைய சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, கர்த்தர் என்னை அனுப்பின வழியாய்ப் போய், அமலேக்கின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாகைக் கொண்டுவந்து, அமலேக்கியரைச் சங்காரம் பண்ணினேன்.
Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the LORD’s voice, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

22அதற்குச் சாமுவேல்: கர்த்தருடைய சத்தத்திற்குக் கீழ்ப்படிகிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், சர்வாங்க தகனங்களும் பலிகளும் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரியமாயிருக்குமோ? பலியைப்பார்க்கிலும் கீழ்ப்படிதலும், ஆட்டுக்கடாக்களின் நிணத்தைப்பார்க்கிலும் செவிகொடுத்தலும் உத்தமம்.
Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the LORD’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

24அப்பொழுது சவுல் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: நான் கர்த்தருடைய கட்டளையையும் உம்முடைய வார்த்தைகளையும் மீறினதினாலே பாவஞ்செய்தேன்; நான் ஜனங்களுக்குப் பயந்து, அவர்கள் சொல்லைக் கேட்டேன்.
Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

31அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் திரும்பிச் சவுலுக்குப் பின்சென்றான்; சவுல் கர்த்தரைப் பணிந்துகொண்டான்.

32பின்பு சாமுவேல்: அமலேக்கின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாகை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்; ஆகாக் சந்தோஷமாய் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து, மரணத்தின் கசப்பு அற்றுப்போனது நிச்சயம் என்றான்.
Then Samuel said, “Bring Agag the king of the Amalekites here to me!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”

33சாமுவேல்: உன் பட்டயம் ஸ்திரீகளைப் பிள்ளையற்றவர்களாக்கினதுபோல, ஸ்திரீகளுக்குள்ளே உன் தாயும் பிள்ளையற்றவளாவாள் என்று சொல்லி, சாமுவேல் கில்காலிலே கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக ஆகாகைத் துண்டித்துப் போட்டான்.

Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. The LORD grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
